“I find it almost impossible to articulate what kind of music I make, and I hate it when people ask me in person because I can’t explain it and end up using vomit-inducing terms like ‘experimental techno shit’ to shut them up. I honestly can’t describe it with any kind of elegance at all. To me, it’s just music I like.”
Oscar Powell belongs to a very small pool of dance artists whose music is a style in itself. The club music he wanted to hear didn't exist, so he made it himself.
Powell also runs a label called Diagonal with his best friend, Jaime Williams, and in the spirit of Powell's records, they mostly release leftfield electronic music you can dance to.
“It’s difficult to make tough music and have a sense of humour”.
Powell's debut album 'Sport' is out on XL Recordings October 14th.
